Rita Su asked:

S Receiver Market

In Taiwan, GPS suppliers besides taking over most international companies’ orders, also successfully develop GPS watches for hiking, golfing and cycling. GPS receiver navigation devices have developed rapidly in recent years and are now much more than talking maps. Auto electronics, consumer electronics, home appliances, information and communications technology (ICT), and telecoms companies have worked together to give them a much more diverse range of functions including use in those of MP3 players, digital photo albums, movie players, and real-time road-condition receivers. They now provide information on navigation, recreation, and entertainment, all in a single unit.

Taiwan’s GPS industry started to take off in 2007. After MiTAC bought Navman, they’ve become the second biggest GPS company in Europe. Also, their sales of 800 million of PND has made them become the third largest GPS supplier in the world. At the same time, TomTom and Garmin have expended their ordering to Taiwan OEM’s from components to fabrication products. The global leader in satellite navigation, Garmin Ltd. and its subsidiaries have designed, manufactured, marketed and sold navigation, communication and information devices and applications since 1989 – most of which are enabled byGPS technology. One of their principal subsidiaries is located in Taiwan. Including Japanese and European orders, Taiwan’s GPS sales were around NT$171 billion. The total growth rate was 70%, which makes its growth very noticeable compared to the 2007 ICT industry growth rate of 4.6%, or 730 billion dollars.

Even though this year, European and U.S. consumer electronic product sales are still being effected by the current economy situation, IEK is still very pretty positive about the GPS market in Taiwan. The Taiwan GPS industry market will grow strongly once the market moves from Europe and the, U.S. to the newly developed countries.

GPS for Hiking

What’s a suitable GPS for cycling? Color mapping, long life battery or replaceable batteries, topo, street/road, & bike trail mapping, text-to-speech (gives me the street name), prefer selectable car vs bicycle mode, a way to pick future routes, possibly software that would use steet & topo to avoid large hilly areas on long distance biking, large SD card, fairly waterproof, screen can be seen in sunlight. One of the Taiwan GPS receiver suppliers announced their product as an all-in-one GPS receiver.

Dedicated massive-correlator signal parameter search engine within the baseband enables rapid search of all the available satellites and acquisition of very weak signal. An advanced track engine allows weak signal tracking and positioning in harsh environments such as urban canyons and under deep foliage.

With very fast signal acquisition speed, it has very low average power consumption for locate on demand type of applications.

GPS for Golfing

Golf GPS systems are rapidly evolving from only player enhancement to complete course management systems. The primary goal of a golf GPS system is to provide players with distances to all kind of features on the course and especially to the green they are playing. Some courses are better fit to use the capabilities of GPS than others. In order to obtain a satisfactory accuracy the GPS receiver must have a non-obstructed view of the sky. This makes that courses with lots of trees are less suitable for golf GPS.

Golf GPS system should contain the following:

Provides you with GPS distances from “any” location on the hole to the 200, 150, 100 yard / meter markers, to the front, centre, and back of the Green.

Record the GPS distance, club used and landing position for every stroke you make.

Stroke length Statistics: tells you the average and longest distance you hit each club in your bag. You know exactly how far you drive the ball.

Club Selector! Suggest which club to use for your next stroke based on the historical stroke data already stored from previous scorecards!

Taiwan GPS suppliers, Mobile Action Technology Inc and Polar have released their new GSP products for sport.

GPS for Cycling

Whether you are a road biker or a mountain biker, there’s a GPS that will work well for you, and it can mount right on your handlebars. All of them have high-sensitivity chipsets for superior satellite reception in urban canyons and under canopy. While they are excellent cyclometers, they aren’t all that great as navigation devices. If you are primarily wanting to track your performance though, Taiwan suppliers who make sporting GPS receivers would be your excellent choice. They are suitable for whoever wants data acquisition and a dashboard lap timer.

Andrew Karasev asked:

Microsoft Dynamics GP is very popular ERP platform, which opens for you its object via such programming and software development tools as eConnect, Microsoft Dexterity, VBA and Modifier, ReportWriter, Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. In order to modify or customize Dynamics GP, you need to be familiar with Great Plains modules setup and business processes workflow. In this small publication we would like to go under the hood in GP Sales Order Processing module. Please, before continuing note, that SOP module is not the same and has in essence to relation with GP Invoicing module. Invoicing module allows you to create only invoices and it is not supported in eConnect. SOP allows you to create Quote, Sales Order, Back Order, Fulfillment Order, Invoice, Return with complex approval cycles, based on document types and process holds

1. SOP module setup. Please, login GP and got to Tools->Setup->Sales->Sales Order Processing. In this screen you define default SOP document types, mentioned in introduction paragraph

2. SOP Order and Invoice fulfillment. This is extremely important concept, related to inventory items allocation toward specific SOP Order or Invoice lines. eConnect supports fulfillment, however in complex ecommerce integration scenarios you may decide to avoid fulfillment error messages (related to item shortages for the specific inventory site or warehouse)

3. Typical SOP Entry screen customization. You may require custom price list, based on the last price for the specific customer, and this logic should disregard standard or layered pricelist for other new or walk in customers. If you have this or similar customizations, we recommend you to deploy Great Plains Dexterity as business logic altering tool

4. eConnect in e-commerce development and programming scenarios. At this time eConnect helps in creating, updating and deleting for the master records: customer, vendor, employee, GL account, addresses. Plus it works with so-called work transactions: SOP invoice, for example is considered as work, until you post it

5. eConnect limitations. It doesn’t post batches, and if you plan to implement complete automation right from your e-commerce application, you need to deploy Alba Spectrum Batch Posting Server. Please contact us for details

Andrew Karasev asked:

Alba Spectrum is happy to announce its Naperville office opening with Dynamics GP Great Plains Guru level functional and technical consultant. In fact, we hired Great Plains Certified Master, Andrew Karasev, who is recognized Dynamics GP, Great Plains Dynamics, Great Plains Accounting, SQL Server DBA, Crystal Reports, Dynamics GP Dexterity technical author and blogger. Andrew will be coordinating local customers in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, as well as helping in managing our Dynamics GP Dexterity Software Development Factory. Alba Spectrum has local mid-west expertise in such Dynamics GP modules, as SOP, POP, Inventory Control, Manufacturing, Bill Of Materials, Service Management, Microsoft CRM Sales, Service, core modules. In this small publication we would like to announce our services and Dynamics GP features and licensing:

1. Dynamics GP Sales Cycle overview. Microsoft Dynamics GP former Great Plains is targeted to mid-size companies in the following industries: non for profit, wholesale and retail, pharmaceutical, discrete manufacturing, recruiting, construction, transportation and logistics, services, energy and power plants, membership services, healthcare and medical tools, warehouse management, regional distribution, international business and more

2. Dynamics GP Implementation methodology. ERP and MRP system implementation typically comes through the following steps: Initial Data Conversion (typically such master records, as Customers, Vendors, GL Accounts, Employees, Addresses, Inventory Items), then beginning GL balances entry (in some cases with some limited Historical Data Conversion: AR, AP, SOP, POP)

3. Dynamics GP Partners channel in Illinois, and USA nationwide. Such corporate ERP applications, as Microsoft Dynamics GP Great Plains are sold and implemented through Dynamics GP VAR , or Reseller Partner channel. Dynamics GP ISV technology or implementation partners have high bars in Great Plains Certification requirements

4. Local ravel versus Nationwide remote support via web sessions, VPN and remote desktop connections. There are pluses and minuses of each method, and we would like to hear from you which one do you prefer. There were numerous discussions about corporate ERP remote support, we would not like to initiate new questions here, however if you have questions, feel free to call our office

Andrew Karasev asked:

Microsoft Dynamics GP is becoming very popular ecommerce ERP and accounting back office. This trend is probably related to success of eConnect SDK, especially for Dynamics GP 10.0 and 9.0 versions. eConnect allows you, being generic C#, VB.Net programmer with good SQL and XML skills to program Great Plains objects manipulation: Customer, Address, Sales Invoice, Customer Payment and other attributes of ecommerce shopping cart. eConnect, being coded in SQL Server Stored Procedures (they are encrypted, so you probably should not expect to trace SQL code for Great Plains business logic there). In this small publication we would like to share with you ecommerce coding experience and Dynamics GP automatic batch posting from eConnect application directly:

1. Older versions of Great Plains Dynamics GP. If you are on GP 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0 or earlier versions, we recommend you to upgrade to Dynamics GP 10.0 as for this version eConnect is really advanced. If you do not have registration key, probably due to the fact of lapsing in Dynamics GP Great Plains annual maintenance program, consider deploying Sales Order Connector, or set of SQL stored procedures, created for ecommerce web developers of older Great Plains version to connect ecommerce shopping cart with GP Sales Order Processing module, please call us for details. If you are on Pervasive SQL or Ctree, your options are very limited, you can still try to program ODBC connection to Pervasive SQL 2000 database, but then you will have to reprogram the logic, which is in fact available in eConnect (if you migrate from Pervasive to Microsoft SQL Server and upgrade to new version GP 10.0)

2. Automatic Batch Posting. Here we often hear from ecommerce programmers the question – why eConnect doesn’t have the tools and logic to post Great Plains SOP Batches (as well as post batches in other Great Plains modules). The answer is in GP architecture (it is pretty common, and you should expect similar restrictions in other ERP and MRP platforms). The concept of ERP business transactions flow suggests you to use three phases of transaction life: work, open and historical. eConnect allows you to create work transactions, in Great Plains these are newly created invoices or sales orders, placed in the batch and submitted for Great Plains user review and posting. In order to trigger Dynamics GP batch posting from eConnect application directly – you have to deploy Great Plains add-on – Alba Spectrum Posting Server

3. Posting Server. It consumes one user license and deploys Dynamics GP Dexterity source code to trigger the same coded logic in Dexterity for batch posting. Autopost is targeted to eCommerce web programmers, plus it post virtually all types of Great Plains Batches: GL, Inventory, Payroll, AP, AR, SOP
